A typical day in the Schuster household....

When I left for work on Saturday morning, this is the picture that I took. My three boys all curled up together on the couch.

When I came home after work on Saturday, this is what the boys looked like! Daddy just couldn't resist.

Farewell Grandpa

On the way to dropping off the kids at school this morning, my dad called me to tell me that my grandpa had passed away. Luckily the kids were already at school because I broke down crying. Wencil Andrulewicz is my paternal grandfather and he was 92 1/2 years old. The picture above is of him, my father, Jim, and Mason, when he was 6 months old. That is the last time I saw Grandpa.
****
It's amazing how life takes you away, how time flies and you think, oh, I'll do that tomorrow. I'll call my grandpa tomorrow. I'll remember to send him a card on his birthday this year. I'll remember to tell him that I love him. Even though I didn't talk to him or see him very often, I never imagined that he wouldn't be there. That my crazy grandpa who loves to hang out in his garage and play with nuts and bolts, that gets yelled at by my grannie every day and that just a few months ago bought a brand new car, that that sweet old man might someday be gone.
****
My grandparents celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this last Saturday. I may not have not understood their relationship but how can you not respect one that has lasted that long.
****
Grandpa used to insist that my name was Amelia Josephine rather than Amy Jo. He loved me and I loved him.
****
My dad said that when they had to leave my grandpa at the funeral home, he told Grannie that she should say goodbye to Grandpa as they would have to leave soon. Grannie went up, kissed Grandpa on the forehead and whispered, "Wencil, why did you leave me?" Then walked away.
****
I will miss you, Grandpa. I love you.

Some great Mason quotes

A true conversation between Mason and his daddy, while Mason was in the bathtub today:

Mason: What are these things attached to my penis?
Daddy: Those are your testicles.
Mason: But, what are the balls inside?
Daddy (with laughter growing in his voice): THOSE are your testicles.
Mason: Oh, just like the ones in my throat?
Daddy (trying not to burst out laughing): No, Mason, those are your TONSILS.
Mason: Oh, my tonsticles. Ok.

Meanwhile, I'm rolling around on the floor in the livingroom holding my gut so as not let Mason hear me laughing hysterically. Ah what a way to start a day!

A Mason quote from another day:

Daddy is driving the boys to school one morning when Mason asks hin why we have to stop at stop signs. Wolf begins to explain, then figures he should explain a little bit about the law. As Wolf proceeds, Mason interrupts him with:

You don't need to tell me about the law, Daddy, I've known about the law for like, 30 years.

Holy shit, where does he get this stuff???

Happy 4th Birthday Mason Grey!

We had such a fantastic day. We dropped Morgan off at school and Wolf, Mason and I spent the rest of the day at Lawrence Hall of Science. We would have loved Morgan to be with us but it would have unfortunately cut our day in half due to his nap, plus Mason really needed the time with just us. And we had so much fun! He was in great spirits all day. The weather could have been better but c'est la vie.
For dinner we invited Nana and Grandpa over and we all had tacos and had a wonderful time. We put a candle in one of Mason's taco boats and sang him happy birthday. It was really cute. We didn't have a cake, though, as he is getting his special cake for his birthday party on Saturday. That is going to be one hell of a day for him, that's for sure.
We gave him his present today - a new big boy bike. It is a 14" Diego bike with training wheels....and he won't ride it because it has brakes, unlike his last radio flyer bike from Aunt Molly, and therefore he can't go backwards. He just gets pissed off. It's very cute and frustrating at the same time. Ah well, he'll figure out someday.
He grows more and more amazing every day. He is smart, funny, fun, sweet, sensitive and just an all around good kid. He has his bad moments and I wish like hell he would sleep through the night, but my heart grows bigger every day with my love for him. I love you, Big Man and I look forward to watching you grow.
